This was a bit of a surprise.
So, at the end of last year when I was finishing up with the Virtual Championship Rasslin thing, I was asked by MWA Pro Wrestling champion Brian Blade to create a new theme song for him. My friend Johnny Cadillac does the ring announcing for MWA, so that’s how Brian Blade and I got connected.
Making A Theme Fit For A Champion
The original request was to create a heel theme song. Something Brian Blade could use when he is working at other promotions as a bad guy. As MWA Champion, Brian Blade is usually the babyface good guy.
We talked through his character, his current theme music, and the overall direction he wanted to go. That was enough to spark a few ideas.
It took some time, but eventually I settled on two songs. One is much more of a babyface (good guy) theme and the other is more of a heel (bad guy) theme.
This project took me in some interesting directions. I ended up buying a new guitar amp - The PRS Archon 50 to be able to get really inspiring metal tones. And I ended up buying a new guitar - the LTD EC-1000 with EMG pickups (pretty much a standard Les Paul style guitar designed for metal).
Once I got the amp a whole bunch of new riffs and ideas came flowing out. Enough that I might start writing an album’s worth of metal songs!
Close To The Edge
Anyway, fast forward to today and I’m releasing the first of two theme songs I made for Brian Blade. This first theme song is uptempo, exciting, and designed to be a babyface entrance theme. It’s called “Close To The Edge” and is about never giving up, even when you are on the edge of defeat.
As part of this I also made the song into more of an entrance video that Brian Blade can use. Sort of like the WWE “Titantron” entrance videos that are pretty standard parts of wrestler entrances now on bigger shows. Mine isn’t as fancy, but is probably pretty good for local indie promotions like MWA.

I believe Brian Blade will be using this theme in his upcoming shows and I assume if the crowd likes it he will stick with it for a while.
The other theme song I’m still making tweaks to, so I expect that to be done in the next few weeks.
Both will be finding their way to Spotify, iTunes, etc. soon as well.
I hope you enjoy the song and if you are ever in the midwest you should go check out a show Brian Blade is wrestling at, they are a lot of fun!
Until next time,
-Brian
