In a strange twist of events, I’m bringing back Code Career Genius… well sort of. Allow me to explain.
Some of you regular readers have been around for the last five years or so and you watched the evolution of me writing on Quora to starting a newsletter to branding it as Code Career Genius and creating courses and coaching and a YouTube channel only to blow up the whole thing and be down to doing this strange newsletter/podcast/youtube thing mostly here on Substack.
Anyway, somewhere in there CCG got to the point where I didn’t want to keep going. It became a zombie project. I didn’t run out of things to say as much as I got tired of saying them.
There is this strange shift toward generosity and giving where I just am not that excited to build, hype, and sell more products for CCG. Creating things because I want to, and giving them away for free is more fun right now. So I’m leaning into that.
And it’s been great. I’m enjoying the freedom to just write, record, or make videos about literally anything and everything. I’m not hamstrung by genre or the little voices in my head about what the audience might want to hear. The rules of “the right thing to do” aren’t determining what I’m going to make next or how to make it.
I’m sure this rule-breaking experiment will be a glorious flop and I’m here for it. I mean really, what happens when you stop following the rules and you just do stuff instead?
Which leads to the latest project. I going to bring back Code Career Genius, only without the Code Career Genius part.
I’m sitting on hundreds of articles from Quora, as well as hundreds of videos that were made for either the CCG YouTube channel, products, or members-only academy. A lot of that content is still relevant and useful years later (that was by design). So, why throw it away entirely? Why not give it away instead?
What I’m doing is going through the CCG video and article archives to see what content I can bring back to life.
But here’s the twist. The CCG brand is dead. So, I’m going to re-edit the content to fit my current style more. That means the content will be tighter, better edited, unbranded, and no more asking for likes, subscribes, or shares on social media.
It will be just the useful bits, edited down as much as makes sense.
As I evaluate this content I’ll be simultaneously pulling down content from the old YouTube channel and maybe tweaking some old Quora posts along the way.
This is a long term project with a long term goal - to salvage the good bits of the Code Career Genius journey (assuming there are enough good bits worth salvaging).
I’ve started with some easy videos. I found two meditation songs I created to listen to while coding. I edited and uploaded the new versions to my channel last night.
Here they are…
and
So that’s the first step on this project. Much, much more to come. I don’t think it will be what I’m working on 100% of the time, but you’ll probably see phases where I do a batch of old CCG videos from the archive, maybe in-between whatever else I’ve got going on.

P.S. Everything old is new again.
